The Parts You Don’t Hear crew recently made the drive up to Leeds to meet the legendary engineer and producer Ken Scott. He was, as one of the greatest British record makers, filled with incredible stories about his celebrated infamous recordings with Bowie, The Beatles and Elton John and many more. Beginning at EMI (or Abbey Road as it would become known) and helming the Sound Techniques A-Range at London’s Trident Studio,Ken off on one of the greatest recording careers in history.
His passion for the desk at Trident on which he helped create some of the most recognisable records and tracks of all time came shining through as did his disappointment in the fact that the Sound Techniques history remains so undiscovered. Lou Reed‘s Transformer, Bowie‘s Hunky Dory, Elton John‘s Honky Chateau, The Beatles‘ White Album; The number of incredible albums that buzzed and vibrated through that old A Range is simply astounding and it was a joy to hear it all from the horses mouth.
