John Wood: One of the great engineers remembers sound techniques

John Wood made the trip down to London from his home in the far North of Scotland and the legendary engineer and producer thought it best to sit down with us for a chat in the pub across the road from the old Sound Techniques Studio; After all it was a place he knew very well. The old Black Lion (now called The Pigs Ear) was the local watering hole for musicians recording in the Chelsea studio and John was on top form.

As one of the founders of Sound Techniques and Head Engineer at the studio, John is an integral part of our film; The engineer whose classic recordings including Pink FloydNick Drake, The Incredible Sting Band, John Martyn, John Cale, Richard and Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny and Nico was kind, relaxed and endlessly generous and honest in his conversation.

A huge thanks to John (who is still working behind the desks) for making the trip and to everyone at the Pigs Ear for taking care of us for the morning. You can read more about John’s amazing body of work at his official web site or book a table at The Pigs Ear on theirs.
