The amazing Linda Thompson sat down with The Part’s You Don’t Hear in her West London home to talk all things Sound Techniques. Preferring the studio over singing live, the studio in Chelsea was a place she felt at home in when recording and also would hang around when other friends such as Sandy Denny & Nick Drake were recording.
Linda had recorded demos in Sound Techniques for Witchseason, Joe Boyd‘s production company with Elton John before recording with Richard Thompson whom she married in 1972. What followed was a trio of classic albums recorded at Sound Techniques now under the name Richard & Linda Thompson: I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight (1974), Hokey Pokey (1975) & Pour Down Like Silver (1975). Quite rightly these albums are now seen as pinnacles of British folk rock in the 70’s, also being up there with engineer John Wood‘s personal favourites.
Since those early days, Linda has suffered from dysphonia (voice loss). Engineer/producer John Wood would concoct an array of equipment in the studio to ease this – something you would never know when listening to the strength of those superb vocal performances, but this after all is The Part’s You Don’t Hear.
