A name you might not have heard if you haven’t delved into traditional British folk music, Martin Carthy is one of the most important and influential figures in the UK folk scene; in the 1960s he was an inspiration to both Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and therefore everything that came after. Martin sat down with us for a relaxed talk about the British folk scene, recording his many albums at Sound Techniques Chelsea and working with the legendary fiddle player Dave Swarbrick who would go on to super stardom with Fairport Convention. As well as his solo albums, he also played in Steeleye Span and the Albion Band.
So, a huge thanks to Martin Carthy, a kind and very humble musical legend, for sparing some time to deepen the story and the early origins of the Sound Techniques folk rock sound. You can find out more about Martin and his music and influence here. Special mention to Cafe Oto, Dalston, London for really helping us out on the hottest day of 2015. Big thanks to our friend Tim Band for getting behind the camera today.
